Cubans are always ready to party!
Any excuse to get a roast pig sorted, drinking rum and dancing till the wee hours in the morning. New Years Eve is something else! It is a night that everyone should live. The party is everywhere…in people’s homes, in restaurants on the street and anywhere in between. It’s about family, friends and the community, and best thing to bring them together is great food!
It is a night that you do need to prepare for, because places are overbooked and taxis are few and far in between. And never fear, if you don’t get into one of these places, you can always roam the street, to find yourself being invited in as Cubans are open and welcoming and area ready to embrace and share their celebrations with you. (especially if you happen to be in Old Havana, Central Havana or Vedado)
But if you are organised, there are a few special spots for the night…
Party hard at Fabrica de Arte
If you feel like you can keep up with millennials, or you are one, this is a great club to hang out at New Years Eve. But be ready for it being packed, as it is one of the most popular clubs in the city at best of times.
Tropicana Show
Tropicana Cabaret can be enjoyed any time of the year. But on New Years Eve they put on an extra special show that will leave a lasting memory on your mind. There’s a mix of dancing and music, glamour and “cubania”, “Tropicana Violins” and personalised gifts among an exotic atmosphere.
Cathedral Square
If you are looking for something a little exotic, there is a massive party as Cathedral Square. A majestic dinner and a musical show are some of the main options you might have. The show called “Noche Cubana” offers a panoramic sightseeing of the most famous Cuban dances and you´ll enjoy an incredible demonstration of culinary skills. This is an event that seems to be getting bigger and bigger each year!
Cannon blast and Fireworks
If you are after something a little quieter, may be by the sea and fireworks then you can head over to Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña on the other side of the bay to enjoy the cannon blast ceremony before grabbing something to eat and drink and then watch the fireworks at midnight.
Roam the Malecon
Local families pour out here for New Years Eve turning it into a great big street party. You can enjoy great conversation, a few beers and plenty of dancing through the night. It is a great place to experience the love and openness of the Cuban people – small group tours cuba.
